What is mentoring?

Mentoring is a trust-based relationship in which one person (the mentor) helps another (the person mentored) to discover more about themselves, their potential and their capability.

Mentoring is a trust-based, confidential relationship in which one person (the mentor) helps another (the person mentored) to discover more about themselves, their potential and their capability. The mentor is usually someone experienced, and often senior, in an organisation.

This practical workshop offers plenty of opportunity for discussion and personal target-setting. Participants will consider the importance of mentoring,and best practice and will be given opportunity to develop mentoring skills. During the day participants will consider the benefits of mentoring, including:

  • Improved performance management
  • Improved staff morale and skills
  • Guidance and support in addition to that offered by line management
  • Enabling staff to realise career development plans
  • Improved internal communication
